Brazilian Public Broadcaster – Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), debates the future of media

After the World Cup fever, Brazil is now living its “election fever” with preparations underway for the major October elections when the Brazilians will have to vote for their president, state governors, senators, federal and regional deputies. Many of the public and private sectors are on a “go slow” at the moment.

But the Brazilian public broadcaster EBC, that includes TV Brazil, TV Brazil International, Agency Brazil, EBC Portal, Nacional News Agency and 8 radio stations (SW, MW and FM), is continuing to work hard.  As part of a strategic long term programme called “EBC 2022 – Harmonizing Strategic Instruments”, the EBC hosted a one day seminar on the 8th of August called “Trends in Public Communication”. The event took place in Brasilia and was attended by the major stakeholders of the organisation.  Among the topics at the seminar were trends in broadcasting services, preparing for frequent change and how to involve the public’s participation.

EBC is preparing experimental transmissions with DRM30 in MW and SW. Both will then be documented and seen as valid tests by the Brazilian Ministry of Communications which has still to announce which Brazilian digital radio standard is to be adopted.
