DRM Participates at Istanbul International Film-TV Forum & Exhibition (IFTV) in Turkey

The Istanbul International Film-TV Forum & Exhibition (IFTV) with the theme Transformation of Broadcasting of TV & radio industry was held in Istanbul between September 28-30 and it proved to be a new and improved version of the old IFTV event, already held several times in the big Turkish city.

This year the forum was a good chance to hear from top Turkish government officials (deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and Tourism and President of RTUK, the Turkish regulator). This was a good reconnection opportunity and also a chance to renew and build international partnerships.

Organised by CEO Event and supported by RATEM – Professional Union of Broadcasting Organisations, the biggest NGO of the sector in Turkey, IFTV brought high profile Turkish and international professionals together.

Two major radio sessions were included in the IFTV programme. One of the best attended sessions (Digital Transformation of Radio) on September 29th was moderated by Taha Yucel, ex-member of the RTUK Board, and included a good argumentation for the inevitability of digital radio from Marcello Lombardo (EBU) and full presentations on both DRM and DAB. The DRM global developments and the recently announced developments on DRM and multi-standard receivers and receiver solutions were very well received. The session was very much a concrete and joint case made for digital radio, in general, for DRM or DAB and DRM, as solutions to digitise a complex country like Turkey. DAB+ trials are underway in the country but a full country solution is still to be decided and implemented.
