For Manufacturers
DRM Trademark
The DRM Association is willing to grant a licence of its trade mark for usage on products or associated material.
The DRM Logo Style Guidelines and the DRM Trade Mark Licence can be downloaded here:
The DRM transmission chain comprises different kind of equipment. In order to get a licence granted the DRM association expects a declaration of conformity and some minimum requirements fulfilled which depend on the type of equipment.
All devices have to conform to the DRM system specification ETSI ES 201980 v020201
In addition further specifications and/or requirements have to be fulfilled as given below for the different classes of equipment. A manufacturer is free to choose which technologies, or parts of technologies, he wishes to implement. It should be noted that if, for example, a manufacturer claims to have implemented parts of the optional standards below, such as MDI, then the declared parts must conform to the relevant documents listed below or the equipment may not be certified as DRM compliant; thus the conformance declaration gives maximum freedom to manufacturers.
It is the responsibility of the customer to verify that the technologies and features he intends to use are supported by a specific piece of equipment. It should also be noted that the customer must be able to rely on the manufacturer’s self-certification claiming that the equipment will (inter-) operate with other manufactures equipment according to the DRM standards. Any combination of classes has to conform to the set union of the listed documents.
Please note that the licensing by DRM of the use of its logo does not mean that DRM is any way either endorsing the product on which the logo appears or certifying that the product is compliant with the relevant technical standards.

Audio Service Component Encoders
An audio service encoder has to support at least one of the three available audio codecs.
- All audio coders are specified in ISO / IEC 14496-3ed.3.0 and ISO/ IEC 14496-3am2ed3.0 for MPEG-4
- For AAC encoders the Error Robust AAC scalable object type from the High Audio Quality Profile is used with the tools HCR (Huffman Codeword Reordering) and VCB11 (Virtual Codebooks for Codebook 11) and a 960 transform. RVLC (Reversible Variable Length Coding) and PNS (Perceptual Noise Substitution) are not used. Some DRM specific extensions are used.
- For CELP encoders only the version 2 bit streams from the MPEG-4 audio standard, the Error Robust (ER) CELP object type (Object Type ID = 24), which is part of the High Quality Audio Profile, is used.
- For HVXC encoders only the error robust syntax with the data rates 2.0 and 4.0 kbps are used with the non-scalable syntax with some specific DRM extensions for error prone channels.
And additionally for controlled operation devices for general interoperability the following optional protocols and interfaces have to be used for data output: - Distribution and Communications Protocol (DCP) ETSI TS 102 821
- DRM Specific Restrictions for the use of the Distribution and Communication Protocol (DCP) ETSI TS 102 358
