NASB 2014 Conference
The Annual Meeting of the NASB (USA) was held on 15-16 May 2014. The meeting was held at the International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB) Edward R. Murrow Transmitting Station in Greenville, North Carolina, USA. More than 25 people from more than 10 broadcasters attended.
The two-day agenda included discussions and meetings about current topics including digital text messages and pictures via shortwave, the latest antenna technology and DRM. There was also a discussion about how shortwave broadcasts can be a voice in areas of restricted access to information and in times of emergency when local broadcast infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
The DRM presentations and discussions were led by Calvin Carter of Continental Electronics Corporation and also a member of the DRM Consortium’s Steering Board. George Ross of TWR (KTWR) in Guam talked about their DRM broadcasts and the many thousands of listeners they have in Asia. Christopher Rumbaugh had a presentation from the perspective of a listener and the clarity that the digital signal provided.
Another highlight of the meeting for all was a two-hour tour of the facilities in Greenville, including being driven to see many of the 41 antennas on the 600 plus acre grounds. Inside, the tour continued by looking and several of the eleven high power shortwave transmitters and control room. Many of the attendees were amazed at the sheer size and complexity of the facility. Many thanks to the team of dedicated people at the station, who made our visit most enjoyable and memorable.
