DRM has been successfully tested in India in march. Do you think that the technology will succeed? [Neelakandan Visvanathan]

Considering that this technology was developed with the express intention of providing better service to the billions of people around the world who currently only have access to analogue AM broadcasts, it is important that the DRM consortium do their best to make it succeed. We know that there are no technological barriers, only economic and political issues. The economic barriers will fall as soon as the power of mass-markets come into play, and this largely relies upon political decision-making: putting a regulatory framework in place, committing countries to digital rollout, engaging all stakeholders (broadcasters and industry), and creation of a market to allow the economic barriers to be overcome. This model has been seen to work and this is what the Consortium is focusing upon, primarily upon raising of awareness and showing that the DRM technology is objectively robust, flexible and most modern.
