Some members of our DRM India WhatsApp group were alerted to recent broadcasts of DRM in the FM band in Delhi? Are these regular transmissions?
The DRM in the FM band transmissions are part of an extensive trial that was started on February 24th and 25th in New Delhi which will continue next week in Jaipur. The aim is to demonstrate the net superiority of the DRM standard that can be used in AM but also without interference in the FM band.
Among the features and benefits that will be shown and tested will be the pure and simulcast operation of DRM (up to three audio channels and one data channel on one current frequency),but also some FIRSTS like transmission of up to 6 DRM blocks in pure DRM operation from a single transmitter, transmission of up to 4 DRM Blocks, along with an analogue FM channels, in Simulcast operation from a single transmitter, transmission of up to 4 services (3 stereo audio, each with a Multimedia Journaline) in one block of DRM. During the test there will be a demonstration of Unicode support i.e support in Hindi and other official Indian scripts, Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF) including CAP compliance, advanced applications through DRM – Radio Schooling/Distance Learning services, Traffic & Travel Information and Public Signage. The reception of various DRM digital services and features will be done on professional receivers, standalone desktop and portable receivers, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, line fit as well as aftermarket vehicles audio systems, various types of available dongles able to receive DRM services on mobile phones, tablets, laptops.
