Pakistani Legislators Appraised of Country Wide DRM Project Underway

The Pakistani Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting was briefed recently by the officials of the Ministry about the Digital Radio Migration project underway in the country.

The public broadcaster, PBC, officials indicated that the project for converting analogue radio to the digital format DRM would make the radio greener, clearer and prove fruitful in increasing the revenues of the radio. PBC has already devised a programme in stages for introducing DRM in all bands. A successful trial of DRM in FM has already taken place and there are detailed plans for also introducing DRM in mediumwave.

The full digitisation project was given an initial cost of approximately Rs3.5 billion (almost 20 million dollars). PBC has the ambition to ensure that finally the whole of Pakistan can be covered with digital radio DRM programmes in both AM and FM.
