Encompass Digital Media, a key DRM Consortium member, active as a managed services company supporting broadcasters (television and radio), cable networks, sports leagues and OTT platforms, has just announced the launch, in partnership with Bridge Technologies, of a new Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) monitoring solution.

Over the last few years Encompass Digital Media has seen a steady growth in the volume of its customers’ DRM transmissions, driven by increasingly wide adoption of the standard. It distributes its customers’ DRM streams to its remote transmitter sites using a hybrid mixture of IP streams via its Altitude Cloud solution and DVB transport stream over satellite. Although the DRM IP stream is well-engineered and robust, it is not easy to identify where distribution issues might be occurring in complex hybrid networks, particularly where the DRM signal is being carried as a private data packet.
Encompass’s existing network of Bridge Technologies already monitors the distribution of important customer content at key sites around the globe: this offered the perfect opportunity for the companies to develop a solution so that these sites could also monitor DRM signal distribution in real time.
A solution is now available, with Bridge Technologies updating their probes for the monitoring of Digital Radio Mondiale, as part of the award winning ETR290 analysis engine. Available DRM-MDI formats include DVB-S/S2/S2X, ASI, IP multicast (MPE), SRT and DVB-T/T2.
Each probe can decode the DRM signal in real time while in transit between sites. The decoded data gives transmitter and network engineers important information regarding the exact configuration of the stream, allowing them to spot any service loss or configuration issues. The approach assists with fault identification and gives Encompass’s customers confidence that any distribution issues with their content streams will be resolved quickly.
Both Encompass Digital Media and Bridge Technologies have representatives at the IBC show in Amsterdam. Please get in touch to explore further how this technology can help your organisation.
