At IBC 2025 the DRM Consortium will announce the launch of a quarterly African newsletter. Following the intense DRM activities in South Africa, the successful eLearning demonstration in the Gambia earlier in the year, the digital radio news coming from the continent and the interest of key countries in the DRM technology, the Consortium has decided to launch a quarterly African newsletter.
The online newsletter will reflect the most important DRM African developments and will be more than just a collection of the most significant DRM news from Africa. It aims to be a tool for understanding the standard and connecting to the DRM global developments. The African newsletter will be compact and fresh as it will benefit from getting input, ideas, feedback and project commitments from the technical experts and entrepreneurs in Africa and other countries.
The Chairman of the South African Platform, Aldred Dreyer, thinks that:
“broadcasters across Africa are increasingly recognising DRM digital technology as an ideal solution for the continent. DRM can bring real benefits to people everywhere, supporting news dissemination, e-learning, providing critical emergency warnings all with outstanding energy efficiency. The African newsletter will offer a consistent platform to share stories, updates and insights that reflect how DRM can transform lives across Africa.”
The DRM Chairman, Ruxandra Obreja, explains why the newsletter will be launched:
“With the interest and focus on digital Africa, the DRM Consortium felt it was the moment to open a window on the possibilities of digital radio DRM and invite regulators, broadcasters, the industry and African listeners wherever they are to use this 21st century technological platform to improve their lives and connect to the world.”
The African newsletter will be quarterly, free, and, with your support and assistance, exciting. You can help it make so!
First free issue due in second half of September. Watch this space!
