Radio Republic Indonesia – RRI and Bandung City sign a MoU on Digital Radio Implementation

Indonesia has committed to rolling out DRM and the implementation process is progressing a lot. As part of the radio digitisation process, the public broadcaster Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) will be helping Bandung City to introduce DRM digital broadcasting, as there are no more frequencies for FM radio stations in that region. In this respect they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ‘improve the quality of public information dissemination and disaster management’.

The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, said at the RRI Bandung Office, on 3rd July 2025 that

“RRI will become an inseparable electronic media in conveying information about programmes and important issues in the city of Bandung. Not only government programmes, but also those related to the social life of the community.”

He also emphasised that the one important matter about the cooperation with RRI is their use of the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) technology to support the early disaster warning system, the Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF). As Bandung is located on the active Lembang Fault line, RRI has the potential to become a disaster mitigation information centre, beneficial to the local community.

“I request that this DRM system be installed in Bandung City to support the early warning system. This is important because we live in a disaster-prone area”,

the Bandung Mayor said.

The Head of RRI Bandung Station, Soleman Yusuf, welcomed this co-operation, being ready to support the delivery of public information in a more interactive and open manner.

Through this synergy, the Bandung City Government and RRI are committed to providing access to broad, accurate, and useful information for all Bandung City residents.
