DRM Congratulates RRI on Its 80th Anniversary and Announces 2026 DRM General Assembly in Indonesia

On the 80th Anniversary of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), 11th September (National Radio Day), the Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium (DRM) congratulates all the RRI employees, teams, management, and millions of listeners for the great anniversary of this preeminent public national and international broadcaster.

RRI is part of Indonesian society supporting its cohesion and progress with information, education and entertainment while using the latest digital technology. The DRM Consortium members are proud that, over the last few years, they have had the opportunity to work closely with the excellent specialists of our key DRM member, RRI, and with its Director General towards the launch of the DRM standard in this beautiful country of over 17,000 islands and 3,000 radio stations. DRM is on air in Indonesia already, helping with the dissemination of information and emergency warnings. The roll-out of the joint digital radio standard project is in good shape.  In the future the international, not-for-profit DRM Consortium and its 100 members worldwide (including Indonesia) will continue to assist RRI in achieving its goals towards the complete coverage of Indonesia’s islands with programmes to be received by all its listeners.

The DRM Consortium is much encouraged by the RRI’s digitisation initiatives. These are supported by the government and the industry, while the receiver industry has started coming up with solutions for DRM (and DRM-DAB) in cars, desktops, and mobiles.

Therefore, it is of the greatest importance for the DRM roll-out in Asia-Pacific and Indonesia that RRI and its President, Director, Mr Ignatius Hendrasmo, have agreed to host our Consortium’s General Assembly on 25-26 March 2026. The DRM Consortium sees this as an important step towards the cooperation with countries and organisations interested in the DRM free-to-all technology which can have an important impact fostering social cohesion and progress in Indonesia!

Congratulations to RRI on its 80th anniversary on a special National Radio Day, 11th September!
