Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) and its consortium members made a successful return to AidEx this year, building on their debut in 2024.
Delegates at AidEx 2025 were shown a video demonstration at the Encompass Digital Media stand, where representatives from Encompass (www.encompass.tv) and Johannes Von Weyssenhoff of Starwaves (www.starwaves.com) showcased students from St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School in Banjul receiving live remote lessons via DRM-enabled receivers. The proof-of-concept and world first, achieved earlier this year, illustrated how DRM digital radio can deliver effective distance learning without the need for internet connectivity.
The demonstration of DRM technology drew strong interest from aid agencies and NGOs attending AidEx recognising its potential for education, training and information dissemination to underserved communities.
Now in its second year at AidEx, DRM continues to position itself as a vital tool for inclusive communication offering scalable, energy-efficient solutions for regions where connectivity remains a challenge.
