DRM+ Trial in Scotland Ends

DRM+ Trial in Scotland Ends

The aim of the DRM+ trial was to measure the coverage of DRM+ operating in various transmission modes and confirm its performance in terms of transmitter power compared to the existing FM coverage. A large number of measurements were taken across the varied terrain with a calibrated receiving system producing extensive data for analysis.

Results released have been very encouraging for DRM+. The report findings (submitted already to ITU)  show that DRM+ is capable of excellent coverage in good quality at reduced power levels compared with FM. Urban coverage was found to be superior to FM despite some audio drop outs. In rural areas, the coverage was also excellent with some audio failure related to terrain shielding. This was comparable to FM listening experience.
