STARWAVES has developed SoftRadio apps for Android mobile phones and tablets. Two versions are available: the DRM SoftRadio App and the DRM/DAB+ SoftRadio App. Users can choose the version that best suits their needs.

The DRM/DAB+ SoftRadio app is ideal for markets where DRM and DAB+ services coexist, such as South Africa, Indonesia, and Australia. It also benefits listeners in Europe who wish to access both local DAB+ services and international DRM broadcasts – for example, those provided by the BBC and Radio Romania International.

Both apps support a wide range of advanced DRM features, including Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF), Journaline, SlideShow, station logos, programme service information, and the latest xHE-AAC audio codec. To enable these services, the apps only require an off-the-shelf SDR RF dongle connected via the device’s USB port.
