Still puzzled by the claim that in DRM there is less energy consumption than in analogue. How can this be explained?

It is clear a fact that the average power for digital transmission is up to 66% lower than for analogue transmission. Tests with actual broadcast waveforms and real-world transmitters demonstrate typical energy savings of 40% – 50%, depending upon broadcast type (music, speech, etc.) and transmission band (MW, SW). The difference is accounted for by the DRM encoding processes, and the slightly lower power-RF efficiency due to additional phase modulation. Additionally, due to digital signals having greater crest factor, lower receiver field-strength is required, meaning the same or greater area is covered. Note that DRM’s error correction means crystal clear stereo sound right up until signal is lost!
