A recent DRM shortwave test broadcast by Encompass Digital Media from Woofferton, UK, on Friday 28th March: 1700-1900 UTC on 5875 kHz and targeting Southern Germany and Switzerland, was successfully received — with encouraging feedback from listeners. Many thanks to everyone who shared their reception reports, including some well beyond the target region. One listener even reported receiving parts of the transmission in New Zealand.
The broadcast demonstrated the ability of DRM digital radio to deliver audio lessons in multiple languages. The featured example included an English original followed by two AI-generated versions in French and German.
A central component of the broadcast, alongside the audio, is a digital textbook (Journaline), showcasing how lesson content — including graphics — can be made available in several languages, both as a live accompaniment and for on-demand access. The material was further enriched with an example homework task, additional information, and illustrative news entries.

The final DRM distance education lesson — complete with multilingual audio and interactive text – will be tested by pupils at a West African school. The content will be delivered to learners via tablets connected to available DRM radios that open a Wi-Fi hotspot — providing access without the need for internet.
