DRM for Education Demonstrated in India

DRM was present for the first time at Asia’s largest and India’s only exhibition and conference on education and skilling resources Didac India 2024, held in New Delhi from 18th to 20th Sept 2024.

DRM Consortium, along with its member Starwaves, participated in the exhibition and demonstrated its application for education.

DRM enables the transmission of text and images in addition to 3 audio services on a single frequency from a transmitter, DRM digital. The text, also in multiple Indian languages, along with images, is a great advantage for distance education, even when internet is not available.

At the DRM stall visitors to the exhibition could see and experience education via DRM on a Starwaves receiver, which provides all education information via WiFi. There were also very convincing demonstrations of reception of DRM text and images on mobile phones. The point made by Consortium representatives was that DRM can revolutionise both broadcasting and education, especially in remote regions where internet access is limited.

Over 200 visitors from educational institutes, educational content developers and students visited the DRM/Starwaves stall and witnessed the demo and features of DRM, already adopted by the public broadcaster All India Radio. Most of them were very impressed with the capability of DRM to ensure distance education and were for the opinion this should be implemented at the earliest for enhancing education in India.

The participating countries in the exhibition included among others: the Maldives, Germany, Finland, Australia, UK. The event was inaugurated by renowned Indian Guru and Spiritual Leader, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
