DRM India Pioneer Continues His Automotive Crusade

For more than a year Dr Thamminana Krushna Rao has organised extensive presentations and demonstrations at big car showrooms all over India where more than 5.2 million new cars are fitted with DRM receivers on which AIR mediumwave broadcasts are available.

But the interest in DRM and his popularisation efforts go well beyond the cars or glass showrooms.

On 11th November 2022 to the School of Electronics & Electrical Engineering in Phagwara, Punjab, India asked him to deliver a lecture about the DRM standard and to also make a live demonstration.

The session was attended by the heads and members of all the departments of the university in the city.

In his lecture Dr Rao covered the key features of this state-of-the-art technology, as well as the objectives of the not-for-profit DRM Consortium promoting it. He also shared with the audience the results of the awareness campaign conducted by him in many Indian states until now.  He mentioned five awareness programmes conducted recently at Jalandhar, Punjab, India.  Dr Rao made a proposal to the Heads of the departments to consider the issuance of a paper on DRM Digital Radio Technology.  The suggestion was taken positively.

Dr. Rao showed a video with a demonstration of DRM transmissions received in cars and made a physical demonstration of a Software Defined Radio using HF+ Discovery SDR. In addition, he gave a physical demo of DRM on the Gospell DRM portable receiver GR-228BP.

The lecture and demonstrations were well received by both the heads of the various university departments and its members.

His efforts will continue and will focus on the excellent reception of DRM in cars, a feature that is not always known or promoted fully in the car showrooms. DRM in India is on the road and Dr Rao is driving this process, too.
