The DRM Consortium will be well represented at the 59th ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings, to be hosted by India’s public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, in New Delhi from 25 to 30 November 2022. This will be the first face-to-face General Assembly after two years of online meetings. The GA 2022 will give Broadcast Media leaders from across the Asia Pacific and other regions a chance to share information and network while marking the transformational journey of independent India over the past 75 year. The theme for this year’s Assembly is Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis.

The DRM involvement will be mainly in the Technical Committee (TC) and the theme of the ABU GA will be focus of the presentation to be given by Alexander Zink (Fraunhofer IIS), Vice-Chairman of the DRM Consortium. He will present the possibilities of delivering much needed services like emergency warning and distance learning using the flexible and latest technology of DRM. Matthew Phillips (CML Microcircuits) will complete this with the introduction of the first energy-saving, low-cost and multi-functional DRM module, which could be a true game-changer for the receiver market. The DRM trio of presentations will be completed by that of Mr Yogendra Pal (Honorary Chairman of the India DRM Chapter) who will update the participants on the latest DRM developments and give an insight in the efficient introduction of DRM into the analogue FM market.
We are also very excited about the keynote speech to be delivered at the ABU TC this year by the Head of Distribution, BBC World Service, Nigel Fry, who will tackle the sustainability of radio with an emphasis on DRM, as well.
