The RDS Forum, held its meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, which, this year, also coincided with its 40th anniversary (October 22nd).
The Forum invited the DRM Consortium to present the latest DRM activities and successes during this annual meeting. Radu Obreja, DRM Marketing Director, gave a presentation on key DRM developments. These included DRM-Multichannel transmissions by several broadcasters from one FM band transmitter, distance education using DRM, and the Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF) of the DRM standard. He emphasized that EWF can provide immediate alerts and safety instructions to regions affected by disasters.
He also reported on progress in countries like Indonesia, China, India, and Pakistan in adopting DRM. Additionally, Radu Obreja introduced new receivers and potential DRM/DAB+ multi-standard chips. The successes of the Consortium and the benefits of DRM were received with great interest by the RDS Forum participants.
RDS (Radio Data System) is a standard for embedding small digital information in analogue FM transmission. The RDS Forum (www.rdsforum.org) is the association of RDS users. It is an institutional partner of the DRM consortium.
