How much does it cost to switch to digital broadcasting?

(Indonesian community station)

This is a very simple questions with a complex answer. It depends on a series of variables like are you thinking of AM or VHF, since DRM is the only standard providing solutions for all radio frequency bands above and below 30 MHz. Are you thinking of a full setup including new transmitter, modulator and ContentServer which is the headend indispensable for digital radio? Are you going to upgrade an existing analogue transmitter, a very optimal and economic solution offered by DRM. Are you thinking of one transmitter or a network of transmitters or several? And the key question: what power you want to use remembering that to get the same coverage as an analogue transmitter you probably require up to one tenth of the power used so far. This will reduce your electricity bill considerably and the budget gain might be used to acquire the extra pieces necessary to linearise your existing transmitter or even to acquire receivers. A broadcast is essential but receivers are then needed to excite and entice your listeners to enjoy and learn about the many benefits of digital radio DRM.
